The Best Skin Care Tips for Swimmers
Chlorine, bromine, and sea salt are used all over the world to sanitize swimming pools, and even though they are excellent at killing bacteria, viruses, and microbes, they have negative side effects on our skin when thereās repeated exposure.
So what can we do to protect our skin from pool and sea chemicals?
In this article, we are going to share with you only the best skin care tips for swimmers. These tips are meant to cover all of the bases so you donāt have to do anything else to keep your skin healthy.
Letās get started.
1. Take a shower with fresh water
Taking a shower before swimming serves two purposes; 1) remove sweat, lotions, bacteria, and organic matter from your body to keep the pool clean, and 2) to supersaturate your skin with fresh water so it doesnāt absorb as much bleach. This should minimize chlorine absorption and thus reduce damage to your skin.
2. Use a pre and post-swim body lotion
Most swimmers donāt use pre-swim body lotions, however, if you do, youāll create a protective barrier around your skin and neutralize the absorption of pool and ocean chemicals.
Having said that, if you still donāt want to use a body lotion before you get in the pool and you canāt take a shower immediately after swimming, apply some body lotion on your skin to hydrate it, soothe dry and itchy skin, and neutralize the chlorine cover that youāll have on your skin.

3. Use a swimmerās face wash
If you often swim in an outdoor pool or open water, then you might experience discomfort on your face after being exposed to the sunās UV rays. If this is the case, a swimmerās face wash would help you calm and relieve any discomfort you may feel.
Additionally, the face wash will gently remove pool chemicals and/or saltwater from your face, and hydrate your skin.

4. Use an after swim body wash
An after-swim body wash is great for providing a deep cleansing of your skin that removes pool chemicals and saltwater. A good body wash should also hydrate dry skin, calm irritated skin post-workout, and remove the unpleasant pool scent that may linger after a good swimming session.
